The Philosophy of Studying – Studying Study Itself
Everyone studies, but few truly understand it.
Why must we study? What is studying? How should we approach it?
The Philosophy of Studying explores the essence of learning. It deeply analyzes the meaning of studying, the nature of knowledge, and the relationship between learning and research, ultimately defining studying as a philosophical pursuit.
Each theme is presented through both poetry and essays, designed to engage both the reader’s emotions and intellect. By weaving together the motivation and principles of studying with literary sensitivity, this work moves beyond rote memorization, opening a path for independent thought and experience.
What is studying, and why does it matter? This collection offers profound insights and inspiration for students, parents, and lifelong learners seeking deeper understanding.

RealIdeal – The One Who Studies Studying
Studying is always around us, yet no one really teaches us how to do it. Why do we study? What is studying, anyway? These seemingly simple questions got stuck in my head, and before I knew it, I had become someone who studies studying.
I majored in Public Administration at Korea University, pondering how to solve social problems, and later pursued a master’s in Policy Studies at Seoul National University, honing structured ways of thinking. As a researcher at the Seoul National University Policy Research Institute, I learned how to design policies from a broad perspective. Later, as a researcher at a national science and technology policy institute, I analyzed how science, technology, and education intertwine.
But studying doesn’t just happen in research labs. While in graduate school, I served as a planning team leader for a university student NGO focused on administrative participation, designing educational programs firsthand. Later, as the head of a content team at an ed-tech company, I developed learning materials for the future of education. Over the years, I’ve worked closely with countless students and parents as a college essay instructor and admissions consultant, getting an up-close view of the essence of studying.
Now, as the director of the Bright Future Education Research Institute, I explore the philosophy of studying and the principles of learning—seeking ways to help students think for themselves and grow independently. My goal is not just higher test scores but a path where learning itself becomes something to be enjoyed. And that’s what I’m still figuring out, every single day.
