So I started watching Bl shows back in 2017 and I watched them all for fun, it wasn’t that deep lol but then I discovered Kiss Me Again in 2018 and PeteKao immediately became my favorite bl couple, I liked the way they tried to destroy bl stereotypes, like one is dominant and other one is weak and needs to be protected or is bullied by other one and etc. When in PeteKao, Kao knew his place and always fought back, I really liked that part. Also Kiss Me Again had the most realistic situations, like confused feelings and being confused by your sexuality (like Pete), misunderstandings, lack of communication and etc. But my favorite part back then and even now is Pete’s character development, from a street boy, who always fights everyone, wants to hurt Kao because he’s panicked gay lol to a guy who works hard to have a good future with Kao and falls head over hills for him. And I always liked how GMMTV took everything slowly, there weren’t moments like ‘I hate you but in next episode NO I love you’ their relationship development was slow and they really showed hardships of accepting your feelings, like Pete accepting that he likes guys and always getting angry about it. Their series isn’t over exaggerated, isn’t loaded with fanservice and with a lot of smut, just to please bl fans and that’s why the show isn’t that popular, because PeteKao’s story is just a love story, they’re the most realistic gay couple out there, with the most realistic real life situations.
Now for the Dark Blue Kiss, my pain, heartache, you name it! When the trailer was released I was so so happy, I also didn’t except that much, I thought Oooh there will be a lot of drama, because in the end in Kiss Me Again PeteKao weren’t a main couple, so there wasn’t that much to wait from. I thought that Dark Blue Kiss was made just for the quick cash, because they became so popular in Kiss Me Again. BUT BOY I WAS WRONG! This show literally destroyed me emotionally, when I was making this video I had at least 10 mental breakdowns. Everything about this show was so painfully beautiful… First of all I want to talk about cinematography, I don’t see many people talking about it and I can’t understand HOW? Every shot was so beautiful, like the last scene in EP 8 when they switch from Mork to Sun, I was so shocked at that scene, music, filming, editing was so perfect, I forgot that I was watching thai bl series. They took filming to another level, you can see only from that how serious they took this series. Now for the scenario, I want to meet the writer and bless them, because again you can see that they worked hard on the writing! Talking about lgbt issues, hardships of coming out especially in Asia (They tried to show that in Kiss The Series too but again PeteKao had like 5 min of screen time) breaking thai bl stereotypes like: “I don’t like guys, I just like you”; Forced annoying girls who try to ruin relationship, they gave us Sundee and Kitty instead, strong minded female characters, also Kitty being lesbian? Thai bl show giving lesbians a representation? Now for the acting, can we please take a moment and applaud TayNew for their acting?! Through the show I always forgot that I was watching series, because their acting was so good! And I also bow to New, the way he acted scared closeted gay, I felt every emotion and yes I also cried like a bitch on EP 11, when he came out to his mom, because his acting felt so real. Not only TayNew but everyone’s acting was on point, there wasn’t a moment I cringed, everyone worked so hard and that’s why the result was so amazing. They gave us amazing show, the best thai bl I ever watched in my life, I smiled, I cried, for the first time in my life I cried because the scene was so soft, beautiful, yes I’m talking about Kao’s anniversary surprise.
Overall PeteKao has the best love story, with the best character developments and I’m happy that I was lucky to see their growth. And it makes me so sad that there may not be any more series about them, even though Dark Blue Kiss was the best ending chapter, it still makes me emo, because I don’t want to say goodbye to this couple and their story, because there is no way in thousands years, that someone will be able to replace PeteKao in my heart, they always will be the best couple for me.
So thanks PeteKao for amazing 3 years, you really showed people what a true love is.
