New York trombone player Doc Wheeler (whosetitle Marie had been covered by Tommy Dorsey) first recorded Sorghum Switch, a song about a sugarcane switch, in November 1941 with his Sunset Orchestra - this line-up also included trumpeter Cat Anderson. Only Dorsey´s version of this song made the charts and there were no other versions in the jazz discographies. Frank Culley recorded a vocal version of this tune in 1949 under the title Cole Slaw.
The highest position reached by this song was Number 21 and was in the Top 30 for a total of 1 week.
