Worksmart Systems Lean Electro/Mechanical Assembly Cell

Our customer was faced with some challenges to create a lean progressive assembly cell for eight operations.First was, how to captivate and handle a fairly complex product and be able to rotate it in two axes for assembly efficiently. The second hurdle was creating production flow through progressive assembly. Any successful solution would need to be robust and simple. Stability was also critical, as the assembly process was somewhat complex and required a stable platform.
Our solution was a rugged lightweight trunion fixture that also rotated in an axis perpendicular to the floor. Locking detents in 90-degree quadrants provided open access to assist assembly. In order to flow the product during the assembly process, this unique fixture was attached to a Worksmart Fleximate transport cart. Production flow was facilitated by having the cart move on a Worksmart’s unique Fleximate Transport Line. Now the assemblers could work ergonomically and move product effortlessly to the downstream work station.
Our customers made further enhancements to the cell including the integration of sensors for measurement, recording torque values, assuring proper assembly methods and error proofing.
Finally, the cell was shipped set up, which allowed the team to focus on ramping up for production.
