Valletta; Malta’s Capital - A Star Fort City, Valette/Knights/Siege + Phoenician? St. Elmo’s Fire

Howdy ya’ll. Let’s talk about the capital city of Malta, the fortified island of Valletta. Being the southern most capital of Europe, as well as the smallest capital by area of the European Union, Valletta has a vast, if not convoluted, history which appears to tie directly to the successes of the Knights of Malta.

For you today, I’ve gathered the very oldest, rarest, and most seldom seen photographs of Valletta dated from the mid 1800’s through the early 20th century. When we talk about “Star Forts” or the defensively fortified cities of the Old World, Valletta should honestly be at the top of our list. A special thanks to researchers like Paul Cook who have visited Malta and helped spark our interest. Today’s video will be a compilation of the the greatest architecture in Valletta, showcased in the oldest known photographs taken in the capital of Malta.

This architecture, these structures, appear so megalithic, and so ancient, it’s hard to fathom the history they have been given, but we will try to process that all today, while taking this history with a grain of salt.
