The very last flights ever to depart from the old New Orleans Airport terminal dating back to 1959 on November 5, 2019 bought tears, cheers, and even a second line Jazz Funeral parade. After a gate party, final passengers sang “When the saints come marching in” and “It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday”. Southwest flight 449 to Houston and 933 to Tampa departed at 9:20 as the curtain came down on the dilapidated 60 year old terminal.
18 months after the last flight out on March 30, 2021; we returned for an eerie tour of the empty terminal as it awaits its final fate. We found a ghost town terminal, but still powered on and surprisingly immaculate. Closing just before the onset of the Covid pandemic, the world changed as the old airport stood in repose.
This video was shot on a DJI Mavic Pro 2 Drone, DJI Osmo Action, IPhone 11, with some footage provided graciously by Erin Burns of the New Orleans Department of Aviation.
