Col. Bonney takes command of 461st Air Control Wing at Robins Air Force Base

Col. Sandra A. Bonney assumed command of the 461st Air Control Wing at Robins Air Force Base on Tuesday, taking over leadership of the Air Force's only wing dedicated to command, control and communications missions.

Bonney replaced Col. Adam W. Shelton, who gave his final salute as commander during a change-of-command ceremony attended by local city and county officials.

The 461st Air Control Wing specializes in what military officials call "C3" operations – command, control and communications. The unit can establish communication networks worldwide, set up mobile air traffic control centers and runways anywhere globally and provide battlefield management support.

"I have so many goals, of course, I realize I have a limited amount of time," Bonney said. "But what I've found is our airmen are so creative and innovative. If we can give them the support and the guidance and instruction that they need, they will take this mission to the next level."
