Join me on PLAY flight 101, PLAY's inaugural service from Keflavík/Reykjavík, Iceland (KEF) to the United States, as we fly to Baltimore, Maryland (BWI). PLAY, formed in 2019, is the reincarnation of the former Icelandic low cost carrier, Wow Air. Wow Air, known for their distinctive purple planes, made a big splash in the international low cost carrier market, but ultimately failed. PLAY, formed initially by two former Wow Air executives, follows many of the same practices, including brightly colored, distinctive planes. This time though, the color is red! Like Wow, PLAY is headquartered in Iceland, and promises to bring tourists to the beautiful country for 1/3rd the price of other major airlines. To give you an idea. My ticket on PLAY from Keflavik to Baltimore, cost me around $200 one way. My ticket on Icelandair to get from New York to Keflavik, set me back almost $800 one way. Anytime more passengers are able to access cheaper airfare, marks a win in my book! PLAY also promises to offer transatlantic connections in the future, as they add more destinations in the United States. The idea being, if you're willing to have a connection in Iceland, they'll take you from the United States to Europe, again, for 1/3rd the price of their competitors. That part of their growth and plan has yet to be fully realized, but they're sure off to a great start, offering inexpensive fares from Baltimore to Iceland. Currently Baltimore is their only US destination, but Boston, New York, and Orlando, are all planned for later this year. Other European cities PLAY serves include, Salzburg, Copenhagen, Paris, Berlin, Alicante, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, and London. Should PLAY continue to thrive, Iceland and Europe as a whole will be more inexpensively accessible, than ever before! Included in this video is a detailed look at PLAY's product, the entire flight from KEF-BWI, and all of the pre-flight festivities at Keflavik. Will I fly PLAY again in the future? Absolutely!
