Why White Rhinos Welcome This Fearless Bird
A massive white rhino may look unstoppable, but hundreds of blood-sucking ticks can hide in the folds of its thick skin. Unable to reach parasites around its ears, neck, and shoulders, the giant depends on a fearless red-billed oxpecker. The bird removes swollen ticks one by one, getting a meal while giving the rhino much-needed relief. It's one of Africa's most fascinating examples of mutualism, where both animals benefit.
