ISTRIA & KVARNER – Best Places, CROATIA Explore Rovinj, Poreč, Opatija & the Islands

In this video, I'll explain in detail what you need to know about the Croatian region of Istria, in northwestern Croatia. Istria is a peninsula and is part of Croatia and Slovenia. It once belonged to the Romans and the Venetians. The original inhabitants, the Histri, were the first settlers. We'll pass the romantic, car-free old Venetian town of Rovinj with its imposing bell tower, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Poreč with its basilica full of frescoes and mosaic floors, the coastal town of Novigrad, Vrsar surrounded by beautiful islands, and the mountain villages of Oprtalj, Hum, Buzet, and Motovun, known for their truffles, olive oil, and wine. The largest city, Pula, with its Roman amphitheater, the underground Zerostrasse, old shopping streets, an imposing fortress, and a Roman temple are just a few examples of what you can expect. The islands in the Kvarner Bay are incredibly diverse. The island of Lošinj boasts ancient forests. It has become a spa town, with the towns of Mali Lošinj and Veli Lošinj offering plenty to see and do. Museums, herb gardens, and numerous hiking trails are just a few examples. Cres, with its beautiful old town and the griffon vulture that inhabits it, is definitely worth a visit. And of course, the island of Krk, connected to the mainland by a bridge, offers several attractions, such as Krk Town, Baška, and Vrbnik, home to the world's smallest street. The Kvarner Bay also boasts several beautiful towns, such as the Austro-Hungarian town of Opatija, Ičici, Moscenika, Senj, Crikvenica, Lovran, and Volosko. The most beautiful lakes in Europe are located in Croatia, namely the Plitvice Lakes. It's a national park. Of course, I also have some tips for good restaurants, hotels, and cycling routes. Want to learn some history about Istria? That's covered too. Enjoy!
