Wet felting cords - aka how to make wet felt ropes

This comprehensive video takes you through my favourite step by step process of wet felting a strong cord (rope) which may be used for multiple applications. Cords make wonderful jewellery components and bag handles, they are also great for hanging felt pods or soap on a rope from! I used merino wool in this video but please feel free to use whatever you have to hand.

01 Introduction from Nicola
40 Australian textile artist Anita Larkin introduced me to this technique
54 What can you use the cords for?
25 Lay out a rectangle of wool, measurements that I used
18 Add embellishments, I used tencel
28 Sprinkle with hot water but don’t add any soap at this stage
05 Roll up on a diagonal from one corner to the other
30 Gently roll the sausage shaped cord/rope away from you on your bubble wrap
29 Start adding soap by hand
59 Pay special attention to the each end of the cord or rope
08 Keep working the cord away from you during the early stages, no pressure on the fibre
03 Gradually add more soap and water and increase the pressure slightly
00 Finish the cord in either a tea towel, bamboo blind/place mat or between your hands
59 Shape, wash all the soap out and reshape
