How to transplant a tree

I will show you how to transplant a tree to a new location. A mature apple tree already grows in a new location for about 5 years and bears fruit.
From personal experience, I can say that the success of planting a fruit tree largely depends on the right timing for this difficult procedure. It is better to determine the date according to specific weather conditions and experience of previous years.
Autumn transplanting of trees is carried out after the third steady frost, but not before 20 October. Trees can be transplanted all November, disregarding the first temporary snow. I had to do this work in December as well.
I transplant mature fruit-bearing trees only as a last resort. First they have to be dug out, of course, it is not difficult to cope with five-year-old specimens. Digging up a tree older than 5-8 years is much more difficult. At this age, trees have a developed root system, and in order to preserve most of the roots, a considerable amount of excavation work has to be done.
Immediately before transplanting, I prune the crown of the tree to restore some balance with the root system, which will decrease in size. And it is more convenient to move such a tree. With successful transplanting, the tree in 2-3 years restores the crown.
Before digging, make a marking around the tree for the trench. Its diameter depends on the size of the plant (1.5 m or a little more), width - about one and a half bayonet of shovel, depth - at least two bayonet of shovel. This trench is designed to mark the root system of the tree.
Then, according to the markings, I begin to dig the trench, the blade of the shovel is placed along the radius to the center. The ends of the roots, departing from the tree, neatly (along the outer contour of the trench) cut with a secateurs.
Transplanted tree all next summer and until deep autumn in hot windy weather I water (1 time in 10 days), somewhat more often sprinkling. Mature trees transplanted according to the described technology take root well.
