Weaving stories of family heritage and public interest, Karama Neal, PhD, identifies the most important question for promoting social change and the four steps each of us should use to answer it. Neal invites us to ask and answer this critical question to help create a world in which everyone can thrive.

Karama Neal, PhD, promotes equity in opportunity through research, practice, advocacy, teaching, and service. She is Chief Operating Officer at Southern Bancorp Community Partners, a values-based financial institution serving Arkansas and Mississippi. Previously a genetics researcher, Karama has taught at Emory University, Loyola University Chicago, Shorter College, and the Arkansas School for Mathematics and Sciences. She writes and speaks frequently on family economic mobility and created an award-winning blog focused on public service and social justice. She maintains an active interest in heir property retention and internet equity.
A proud alumna of historic Little Rock Central High School, Karama completed her undergraduate degree in biology at Swarthmore College and earned her doctorate in genetics from Emory University. She holds a masters in bioethics from Loyola University Chicago and has completed executive education in impact investing at the University of Oxford.
