Welcome to Meghan Grace DIY! I have been sewing since I was 8 years old and have done lots of great things in the sewing world from making figure skating costumes to teaching high school fashion to freelance costume design to college fashion professor. This video is a tutorial on how to create a button down short sleeved shirt with a collar. This is part 1 in a 3 part series on how to construct a button down shirt using New Look Pattern 6197. The first part focuses on the prep work for each piece before moving on to the major construction of the garment. While you are watching the video, please keep in mind there are many different sewing techniques out there so please take what works and leave what doesn't.

Supplies for this tutorial:
Between 2 and 2.5 yds of light weight fabric
1 yd Interfacing
New Look Pattern 6197 (or another shirt pattern)
5 5/8th to 1in wide buttons
Scissors, thread, pins
