Engelbecken The Angel Basin is the only visible remnant of the historic canal of the Luisenstadt. In front of St. Michael's Church, the water basin with a multitude of fountains has been stretching out again since 1999. With a view of the glittering water, the hours pass like seconds here on a quiet afternoon.

The Luisenstadt Canal, or Luisenstädtischer Kanal, is a 2.3-kilometre-long (1.4 mi) former canal in Berlin, Germany. It is named after the Luisenstadt district and ran through today's districts of Kreuzberg and Mitte, linking the Landwehr Canal with the Spree River, and serving a central canal basin known as the Engelbecken or Angel's Pool. The canal is named after Queen Louise, the wife of King Friedrich Wilhelm III.

Huge, busy Mitte is Berlin’s central borough, home to the Brandenburg Gate and Museum Island’s art institutions, as well as the striking Hauptbahnhof central train station and sprawling Tiergarten park. Elegant boulevards like Unter den Linden and squares like Gendarmenmarkt are known for their restored pre-war buildings, and the Hackescher Markt area has hip cafes and shops in a series of labyrinthine courtyards.

With elegant pre-war buildings and high-end boutiques, the western district of Charlottenburg is known for its upscale vibe. Shopping boulevard Kurfürstendamm (“Ku’damm”) is lined with hotels and department stores. Charlottenburg Palace and Park offer baroque interiors and landscaped gardens. Savignyplatz, a literary and performing arts hub pre-WWII, is now surrounded by Asian eateries drawing an international crowd.
