I Restored a 1965 Jaguar — Watch This Before Buying Vintage
Before you drop $5,000–$10,000 on a vintage Fender… watch this first.
In this video, I walk through the full inspection and restoration of a 1965 Sonic Blue Fender Jaguar that was sold as a “body-only refinish” with otherwise original parts. Once it hit my bench, I found several things that weren’t disclosed — from swapped pickup positions and incorrect screws, to fret wear that absolutely did not match the listing description.
This isn’t a takedown of sellers...Most are honest.
But when you’re buying vintage — especially online — a lot can slip through the cracks.
I’ll show you exactly what to look for:
-Neck stamps & model codes
-Pot dates
-Refinish tells
-Brazilian rosewood veneer thickness
-Fret height measurements (when a refret is near)
-Vibrato cavity issues
-Pickup originality & fragile coil wires
-Truss rod function
-Solder joints & hardware inconsistencies
If you’re hunting for a vintage Jaguar, Jazzmaster, Mustang, or any other vintage Fender offset, this should help you avoid expensive surprises.
This particular ’65 now plays beautifully — but it took some real work to get it there.
