The BIGGEST Lie About Startups & Venture Capital 🤯🤿

First, let me share one of my favorite analogies. Many people think of venture capital and startups as a sport that is very fast-paced—like surfing or basketball. They picture the waves, the wind, the court, the people, and all the running around. But that's a massive misconception.

Venture capital, when properly understood, and even entrepreneurship itself, is much more like scuba diving. It is slow, it is patient, and you have to move with the current. You have to be careful not to hit the reef, and you always have to watch out for the sharks. You are operating deep down below the waves.

Those waves? That's the surface bubble. That's the noise of the public markets. The hedge fund guys and the day traders playing in the public markets are caught up in that surface turbulence. I don't pay much attention to them because, frankly, I think it's distracting. True value creation happens in the deep, quiet waters where patience and strategic navigation are the keys to survival and success.

This analogy perfectly captures the reality of early-stage investing. VC funds typically operate on a 10-year lifecycle. It takes years to nurture a company from an idea to a sustainable business. It's not about quick flips or reacting to daily news cycles; it's about long-term vision and steady execution.

What do you think? Are you playing the fast game on the surface, or are you scuba diving for real value? Let us know in the comments! 👇
