FROM DREAMS TO REALITY - A TRIBUTE TO MINORITY INVENTORS
This tribute to minority inventors shows the many inventions they have contributed to American science, technology, and medicine. Actor Cssie Davis hosts this visit to the U.S. Patent Office in Virginia where over four million patents are filed each year. A brief history and function of the patent office is explained. the program then focuses on the contributions minority inventors have made to American society. the inventors profiled include: A) Louis Latimer, an afro-American and a colleague of Thomas Wison, who created innovative advances in the field of electricity; B) Randall Woods, an exceptional black inventor from Indiana, who during the early part of this century tiled over sixty patents relating to the railroad industry. He is credited for inventing the three rail system currently used in subway cars; C) Dr. George Washington Carver, the famous black scientist from Tuskegee, Alabama, who is noted for his experiments in plant chemistry and agriculture; D) Garrett Morgan, a black inventor from Cleveland, Chio, who designed and patented the traffic signal; E) Dr. Charles Drew, a black doctor from Washington, D.C. who invented methods for preserving blood plasma; F) Dr. An Wang, and Asian American and the inventor of the basic digital computer machine; G) Philip Stevens, an American Indian and inventor of defense system missiles; H) Ysidore Martinez, an Hispanic American and inventor of knee implants for victims of arthritis: I) Dr. Meredith Gourdine, a black inventor especially noted for his fog dispersal system used on airport runways; J) Mrs. Mildred Smith inventor of a unique geneology game "Family traditions".
