Labour MP Torsten Bell was promoted into the role on Tuesday, just six months after winning a seat in Parliament. He has a history of speaking out against the current system.

Not only would he ideally like to replace the triple lock - which guarantees that the state pension will rise by either inflation, wage growth or a 2.5% minimum - he has also previously said he'd want pension pots to be included in taxable earnings.
