How To Shoot A Zoom Blur Effect

A zoom Blur effect can look pretty cool - and best of all you can shoot it in camera which is easier than adding it later in software. A zoom blur effect is exactly what it sounds like. You zoom your lens during a slow exposure so the image blurs onto the camera's sensor.

To get it looking right you just need to think it through and plan your shot. If you don't there's a good chance your shot will be messy and the zoom effect won't begin and end where you want it to.

This video is an exercise intended to take you through the zoom blur process. What you need to consider by way of how much to zoom, how long you need the exposure to be and how to set the shot up and be in charge of your camera controls (http://www.photographycourses.biz/camera_controls1.html).

So how do you do it? Firstly use a tripod to set up your shot. Then check where you want the zoom to begin and end so it fits within the camera's viewfinder frame. And finally how to set an exposure long enough for you to zoom the lens during the exposure - but no longer than necessary. Check out the video and see how to do a zoom blur - then go out there and practise it.
