El Tondero is a typical dance of northern coast of Peru characterized by being very expressive; It is defined as the imitation of a love ritual of birds for the purpose of mating, the roundup that the rooster makes to the hen to woo her.
Clothing: The man wears a saddlebag and dances with the sleeves and without shoes, the lady dances without shoes and with a pitcher of chicha typical of Piura.
The performance of the Tondero consists practically in an act of courtship, in which the man invites the woman with a handkerchief and bows with his hat, while the woman insinuates her acceptance with a headscarf and raised skirt, digging the floor with the thumb of the foot, showing the wait for the dance to begin. In the dance arena, they half turn, always looking at each other, and then enter the face-to-face, where the woman has the initiative to do so, but at the last moment avoids all intention. Then the man shows his manhood by scratching the floor with the dance and she responds with suggestive gestures and poses. The man kneels at the end of the first part, which has a short guitar strum pause, to start again with the songs and figure changes, and then conclude with the end of the coquetry.

El Tondero es una danza típica del norte costeño del Perú caracterizado por ser muy expresivo; se define como la imitación de un ritual amoroso de las aves con el fin de apareamiento, se figura el rodeo que el gallo hace a la gallina con el fin de cortejarla.
Vestimenta: El varón lleva alforja y baila con el pantalón remangado y sin zapatos, la dama baila sin zapatos y con un cántaro de chicha que es típica de Piura.
La ejecución del tondero consiste básicamente en un acto de cortejo, en el cual el varón invita a la mujer con un pañuelo y con venias de sombrero, mientras la mujer le insinúa su aceptación con un pañuelo en alto y la falda levantada, escarbando el suelo con el pulgar del pie, que indica la espera del inicio del baile. En el ruedo del baile, giran a medias en su sitio, siempre mirándose, para luego entrar al careo, donde la mujer tiene la iniciativa para hacerlo, pero en el último momento esquiva toda intención. Luego, el hombre demuestra su virilidad rascando el suelo con el baile y ella le responde con insinuantes gestos y poses. El hombre se arrodilla al final de la primera parte, la cual posee una pequeña pausa de rasgueo de guitarra para empezar de nuevo con las venias y los cambios de figuras, para luego concluir con el final de la coquetería.
