#132 Britannia Close Call With A Windfoiler? (2 Dec 2020)

The last run of the day for Britannia before de-rigging. Check out the last minute or so of the footage...It looks to me as if they had a close call with a windfoiler and pulled up quickly as they were bearing away. Filmed from a distance so perspective is tricky, so it may just be coincidence that the windfoiler was in the same frame...looked plausible to me though. Either way, Britannia packed up after that.

I saw 3 boats out today: Britannia, Luna Rossa and Te Rehutai. It seems like American Magic have been absent for a little while...perhaps they’re making some adjustments to the boat/rigging? I only caught footage of the two defenders out today. Britannia were out between Narrow Neck and Takapuna then moved further in towards North Head later in the arvo. Luna Rossa...they were out past East Coast Bays on the horizon as well as way out the other side of Browns Island near Course E. I didn’t catch Te Rehutai at all, but saw them around Narrow Neck spending more time with their code zero jib.

Wind at time of filming:
14-16kts NNE at Rangitoto Lighthouse (from left side of screen)
10-14kts NNE at Bean Rock

Filmed from:
Narrow Neck
