Alberta Premier Jason Kenney on Keystone XL, province's COVID-19 vaccine supply – January 18, 2021
In Calgary, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney reacts to reports that United States president-elect Joe Biden plans to withdraw authorization for the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. The pipeline is intended to carry bitumen from Alberta to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico. The Alberta government announced in 2020 that it was investing $1.5 billion in the pipeline. The premier also provides an update on the province's supply of COVID-19 vaccines. He announces that Alberta will not have enough vaccines to continue with new first-dose appointments by the end of the day or tomorrow, even with a shipment of Pfizer vaccines expected later in the week. Alberta is pausing appointments for first-dose appointments until further notice, but . Pfizer recently announced it was temporarily reducing the number of international vaccine shipments in the coming weeks in order to increase production capacity at one of its European manufacturing facilities.
