FDWB - 2020 Equipment Tour
I'm posting three videos to tour and explain our small farm operation:
* The Farmplace
- A flyover of the original family homestead. There was a lot of work to be done to clean it up when I moved here. As you can tell, there is still a lot more work to do from here.
* The fields and an average yield for hay farming.
- A Google Earth and drone fly over of the pastures we put up into hay. There is an explanation for an average yield of all the fields put together and some ideas for what I want to do in 2020.
* The farm equipment.
- Not every piece of equipment we have is in this video. Instead, its an intro to the equipment we use specifically for our hay operation.
These videos should give insight into our farm operation for the 2020 season. They will also act as a primer for the goals that I will be setting for this year. As we expand our capacity with roof space and equipment, I plan on selling more small square bales and possibly seeding new fields. It would seem that our local demand gives us a lot of room to grow our supply. For now, the handicap is the logistic limitations of our operation.
Brief History:
My dad and I put up small square and round bale grass hay that we sell to mostly horse owners. We started off putting up hay just to maintain the pastures in 2012. Over the next few years we expanded customers and equipment and are starting to gather some momentum. We operated mostly as a cash operation. We didn't make any improvements on credit and were not aggressive with expansion. This year (2020) will mark a new step where I will start making more ambitious moves to grow this small farm.
