Chef Scottie bakes cookies for everyone! (teaching independence)

Our dearest Scottie boo is growing so fast right before our eyes. Even as his mom and seeing him everyday, I am still at awe on how fast he picks things up. One day, he will have no clue what he is doing and the next, he perfects it like he has known it all his life. It’s quite spectacular to watch actually. A little surprise everyday.

Slater and I have always wanted Scott to grow up with confidence that he can do things by himself. We try our best to encourage independence, especially when it comes to everyday things. On top of me being with him at home all the time, he has 2 yayas. To be honest, we really didn’t plan on this. It’s a bit too much for our small family, and our small budget (lol). We decided to hire our second nanny when our relative no longer could. Because he always has someone looking after him, it was really important for us that he wouldn’t rely on them too much and that he was still capable of doing things by himself. We’ve adopted a sort of Montessori inspired approach to things where we put objects at his level so he can easily have access to them. We also made sure not to make a big deal about messy situations or mistakes he makes while he is discovering his own capabilities. So far, we love how this approach has turned out. Obviously, there is no “best way” to raise your child, but we really lucked out on this one! In case you have the same parenting philosophy as us, hope this can help you in any way 🙂
