Testing Your Product Idea? Prepare for This

Most founders and product executives come in pretty confident they know their users. Simulated shopping has a way of changing that.
It is a research exercise the Headway design team runs early in engagements, where they take a product idea and show it to real strangers with no framing, no coaching, and no founder in the room. What comes back is almost always a surprise. People do not get the idea. They miss the feature. They would never use it. And then, when asked what they would use instead, they say something nobody on the product team had considered.
Breanna Shappy walks through what that moment looks like for clients, whether they are first-time founders or executives at larger enterprise teams. The blind spot is the same across both. The eureka moment lands the same way too.
The difference between what a team builds for themselves and what users actually want to use is real. Getting unbiased, candid feedback early is how you close that gap before it costs you.

Intent & Craft is a product design podcast about design systems, AI in design, and the real work behind great software, hosted by Billy Sweetman and Breanna Shappy at Headway, a digital product agency that helps startups and enterprise teams.
