Big Gator Feeding! Beaver medical update! Macaw moves into new home!

Feeding Dino, our largest alligator at the sanctuary! Moving Sheldon the blue & gold macaw into his new home! Yesterday we also took Teddy to the vet where he had surgery on his head. Hopefully he continues to take his meds, if not, we have a few different food options that we can hide them in. He’s in the main beaver enclosure so he can still be with Bucky, but he’s in a dog crate, where we can monitor him closely, make sure his incision stays clean, and make sure he’s taking his meds.
What we thought may be a respiratory infection and conjunctivitis was a very deep and complicated abscess walled off by infect tissue. And we still don’t know what caused it. The pressure of the abscess was likely pushing on his eye, causing the third eyelid to swell. he had surgery to clear the infected tissue and puss, but the infection is so deep it has started to eat away at his bone, his skull. We were able to get a lot of thick puss out of his nasal passage, and are sending cultures and tissue off for diagnostics. He’s on pain medication and antibiotics, but the next few days will be critical. This is really terrible news. We feel like our hearts can’t handle much more. Please keep Teddy in your prayers. We know that this is a very serious diagnosis and prognosis is considered grave but the fact that he has been eating and swimming gives us hope.
