Mexicans EVACUATED From Haiti As Ruthless Gang Violence Continues

Amid rampant gang violence in Haiti, this is the moment that 34 Mexican nationals were evacuated in a dramatic helicopter rescue that saw more embassy staff leave the troubled country.

Haiti’s main airport in Port-au-Prince has been closed for almost a month with marauding armed gangs paralysing the capital and preventing civilians from leaving the country.

The nation has seen a surge in violence in recent months with law and order collapsing in the wake of an armed insurrection against Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

There are frequent gun battles between police and gang members on the streets of Port-au-Prince.

Here, gunfire erupted in the centre of the city, near the National Palace.

Scores of civilians were trapped amid the chaos, while others ran for their lives.

Up to 5,000 armed personnel would be needed to restore peace to the Caribbean nation, according to UN officials.
