Booking.com vs. Airbnb in 2020

When looking at statistics of how many people visit both platforms about a year ago results where in favour of booking.com so let’s have a look at current trends and as we can see
booking.com has a staggering number of visits to its site - 423 mi - which is roughly a 21 % increase since last time I checked.

It also ranks number 1 in the category of travel and tourism, we see that little over 8 % of visitors to this site are from the US which again is about 16 % more than before (here is a quick snippet from Similarweb 2018 report).

Now when we want to compare it to Airbnb then we see that currently our beloved friend has only 73 mio visits to the site in the same given period of time. We see that Airbnb is right next to Booking.com for ranking in the Travel and Tourism category, lags far behind booking.com in global ranking but it still is a more popular choice on its home turf namely the United States.

Also, when I look at the current state of competition locally, here I’m looking at my own home town statistics …. on Airbnb I see that it has grown by over 30 % in the last 15 months.
275 apartments listed in my area at the moment.

At the same time when I look on Booking.com I see that in the category of vacation homes there’s only 168 of us which again is about 40 % less competition than on Airbnb.
