Bench Quarrying: Extraction of Giant Natural Stone Slab Block

This video shows the process of bench quarrying or tiered mining in a natural stone mine (quartz/marble) to extract giant stone blocks from the parent rock formation. The process begins with vertical cutting using a special tool to form a thin slab block that stands upright. This separation is done with high precision to ensure the structural integrity of the stone is maintained before it is dropped onto the prepared foundation.

After the cutting is completed, the stone block is slowly pushed until it falls to the ground area that has been covered with piles of sand or other soft material. This cushioning layer is vital to dampen kinetic energy and impact force when a stone block hits the ground. Without adequate cushioning, stone blocks are at risk of cracking or crumbling into small fragments that will reduce the economic value and quality of the material.

This controlled drop method allows workers to get large chunks of stone which will then be cut back into slabs for the needs of the construction and interior industry. The use of heavy equipment such as an excavator at the top serves to provide a stable initial thrust, ensuring the block falls exactly at the ground coordinate point that has been determined by the field technical team.

Each stage in this extraction requires a strict load calculation and coordination because it involves materials weighing tens of tons. The success of the block falling without damage indicates the quality of a solid rock deposit. The extraction result from a mine like this will later go through a further finishing process until it becomes a smooth and aesthetic surface material to be applied to various premium architectural projects.
