Virtual Global Education in Istanbul, Turkey Information Session

This virtual course, NELC 2194 (four credits), will be held during May 2022. Students will learn about Turkish culture through brief forays into history, geography, language, literature, visual and performing arts, food, sports, fashion, media, religion, politics and society. These forays will provide opportunities for deeper explorations of issues of contemporary relevance and central importance to the study of Turkey, including the legacy of the Ottoman Empire, Islam and secularism, the East/West divide, nationalism, the politics of translation, the role of the arts in society and social movements, minority and human rights, identity politics and more. Activities include discussions and group activities, as well as online communication and collaboration with Turkish peers at a university in Istanbul.
