BYD has been a focus of interest in the US for over a decade, ever since Warren Buffet bought 225 million shares in the company back in 2008.

The Blade Battery was developed by FinDreams Battery, an independent subsidiary of Chinese automaker BYD, which is also a major supplier of EV batteries to other automakers.

Blade batteries are named according to their shape. Because batteries are more flat and elongated than traditional square batteries, they are called BLADE BATTERIES. Blade battery technology uses a new cell length to flatten the cell design. According to the BYD patent, the company's blade battery can reach a maximum length of 2500mm, which is more than 10 times that of a conventional ordinary lithium iron phosphate battery, which can improve group efficiency of the battery.

The Blade Battery was also designed to maximize the use of available space within the battery pack. BYD says that the Blade battery offers higher space utilization than a conventional EV battery. Blade's battery have passed the "Everest" test, which guarantees that they will never spontaneously ignite, a test that is regarded as a benchmark in the battery industry.

BYD also said its Blade Battery passed other extreme test conditions, including being overcharged by 260%, crushed, bent and heated in a furnace to 300 degrees Celsius. BYD claims the Blade Battery is currently the only EV battery in the world that can safely pass these tests.

BYD claims to have improved the lifespan of lithium iron phosphate power packs to basically the same level as that of ternary lithium batteries. In addition t safety, blade batteries can also improve the space utilization inside the vehicle battery pack, so that the lithium iron phosphate battery pack with low energy density can also reach the level of lithium ternary battery, to improve the vehicle range.

The Blade Battery has a life cycle of 8 years or 1.2 million km. It is also extremely safe and 30 percent more affordable than other LFP battery packs, which are already a bargain compared to Li-ion equivalents.

BYD has begun shipping its battery electric vehicles to Norway, where the demand for electric vehicles has rapidly grown. Tesla could use Chinese automotive company BYD's new, ultra safe Blade battery design in some of its vehicles in 2022
