I have considered important, re-upload one of my 'old videos' related to 'how to do foamed channels or pleats'
The tutorial shows two ways of doing foamed channels. I personally, used the 'loose leather method' to get pop-up channels which have a better look...on the contrary, the underside where the 'backing cloth' goes, remains flat.
The 'standard method' shared half and a half for the upper and lower part...the foamed design behaves as an spring or accordion which adds elasticity while sitting on.
In a near future, we'll be together, achieving nice real size upholstery projects...I hope so.
