When Peter Jackson DIDN'T LIKE the CGI in The Hobbit!

In The Hobbit, Peter Jackson noticed that the coins flowing off Smaug's treasure hoard, created using CGI, didn’t look quite right, even though the visual effects artists had based them on physical simulations. Unable to pinpoint the issue, Jackson instructed the team to take real coins to a motion capture studio, simulate them flowing, and study how they moved. This hands-on approach helped them understand what was wrong with the simulation, leading to a more realistic result. Jackson’s keen attention to detail highlighted his ability to spot issues that even the VFX artists missed.
