Signvertising ...The 3 Most Effective Ways to Make Your Sign's Advertising Message Stand Out!

Let's face it, we all need to make our advertising dollars stretch as far as possible, especially these days! Unfortunately, the average business sign fails to attract and impress potential clients -- the very clients you would love to have!

With the right sign though, you can quickly attract (this) new business by refreshing your company's image in the public eye. But you want to make absolutely sure you go about this the right way. So in this video, you are going to see the correct, step-by-step approach on how to make a sign and it's advertising message really stand out and get noticed!

The first step is to make sure all your new business signs are the right size. Sounds easy right? But most people, including well-meaning sign companies, size signs the wrong way (Wrong Way sign image?) by selecting the size they think they need first ... and then working in the text. But that's actually the exact opposite way of sizing your sign correctly!

The correct way to make a sign is to basically "reverse engineer" your new signage by selecting the best size for your letters FIRST and then the overall size of your sign will fall into place. But how exactly do you go about choosing the best size letters for your text? Fortunately, you don't have to take your "best guess" anymore, because Penn State University and the United States Sign Council conducted a research study to scientifically determine the readability of letters at specific sizes and distances.

Distance is of course, the most important factor in determining what size your letters need to be because the farther away you want your message to stand out, the taller your letters need to be, right? Sooo, the very very first step in how to make a sign is to measure how far back your audience will be from where your brand new, eye-catching sign will be displayed.

Now if it's a road sign, we have actually created the world's only letter sizing calculator right on our website which will instantly calculate distances for you! You can find the link for that below this video. Once you know the distance, determining the letter size is super easy! For example, to make your sign's advertising message really POP, a 1" tall letter is recommended for every 5 feet of viewing distance. So, for a sign with a maximum viewing distance of 60 feet, 12" tall letters are recommended.
(60' divided by 5' = 12")

That formula will help you determine the perfect size for the words you want to stand out the most on your sign. But for the secondary part of your message, consider using a 1" tall letter for every 10 feet of viewing distance. And for the smallest text on your sign, a 1" tall letter is legible up to 30 feet away in ideal conditions. So the smallest text recommended for a sign that's posted 60 feet away is 2 inches. (60 divided by 30' = 2" tall letters).

I realize this is already starting to sound like WORK but our Letter Sizing Calculators can quickly determine what size your letters should be.
