Ragtime Festival After-Hours Cake-Walkin' Shenanigans, 2015
At the post-festival party following the 2015 West Coast Ragtime Festival, Michael Chisholm, Tom Brier and (for the first tune) Kylan deGhetaldi jam on a couple of cakewalks while assorted other musicians have fun strutting around the room.
The tunes are "Remus Takes the Cake" from 1896 by Jacob Henry Ellis, and "Coon Hollow Capers" from 1899 by Frank R. Gillis.
You can download the the instrumental version of Remus Takes the Cake here: http://levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu/catalog/levy:172.078 (click the "View PDF" button), or the song version here: http://memory.loc.gov/diglib/ihas/loc.award.rpbaasm.0431/default.html (use the "Page Turner" then click the "Master" download link for each page).
Download Coon Hollow Capers (published in instrumental form but with song lyrics embedded) here: http://memory.loc.gov/diglib/ihas/loc.award.rpbaasm.0535/default.html
As always, those easily offended by historic lyrics may want to avoid reading the words (as if the title of the second piece didn't make that obvious). The lyrics were never intended to be offensive, merely describing a festive African-American cakewalk party, but to sensitive modern eyes they can be shocking -- and certain words no longer are innocuous.
