Throughout the games, Jim travels to numerous planets and faces numerous villains seeking the suit. In Earthworm Jim 2, Jim must rescue Princess What's-Her-Name when she is kidnapped by Psy-Crow. Most of the game's villains still appear from time to time to cause him trouble. Jim can be a little naive, somewhat degenerate, and rarely thinks before charging into battle, but he can occasionally be very cunning. Jim is also very gullible, even trusting villains in unconvincing costumes. His motto is "When all else fails, start shooting!" Jim has a crush on Princess What's-Her-Name, which often confuses her in the cartoons, but his determination never wavers. Jim also appears childish, enjoying pop-up books, snowballs, and other childish things. In the games, Jim has a slight southern accent and says phrases like "Great!" or "Whoa, Nelly!" In the animated series, his accent is almost gone, but he still retains his catchphrase and prepares for battle in Mortal Kombat!

A lo largo de los juegos, Jim viaja a numerosos planetas y se enfrenta a numerosos villanos que buscan el traje.
