Dragon Age Inquisition - Class Build - Freezing Cryomancer Guide!

On their own, Necromancers and Winter mages don't have much to offer to a fight. But combining the two, a Cryomancer can have a lot of fun freezing enemies and blasting them into chunks!

This guide focuses on how to build your class using a combination of standard skills from the Winter, Inferno skill trees, and new active and passives from the Necromancer specialization.

With about 15-20 points to place, you can put together a very powerful Necromancer that has everything it needs to dominate on the battlefield.

Winter

Fade Step / Winter Stillness / Ice Mine / Brittle Glyph (Skill upgrade) / Frost Mastery / Ice Armor / Blizzard / Ice Storm (Skill upgrade)

Inferno

Immolate / Flashpoint / Clean Burn

Necromancer

Horror / Death Siphon / Blinding Terror / Power of the Dead / Simulacrum / Walking Bomb / Virulent (Skill upgrade) / Spirit Mark / Lingering Mark (Skill upgrade)

This gives us 7 skills. From here, fill in with a skill that helps your party the most. For example, if you don't already have another mage in the party with Barrier, take Barrier as your 8th skill. Want more damage and some more burning with panic? Take Wall of Fire!

For AI settings This is one of the harder classes to set up a viable AI tactics settings for, so you'll have to experiment and adjust depending on your party set up.

Also set their behavior to Defend itself. Normally I would say set it to Follow self, but in this case, the passives we have benefit from the Necro standing closer to enemies that are freezing and dying.

Again, Barrier can definitely help. I have my support Vivivenne casting Barrier on priority. If you don't have a mage like that, then take Barrier for this build and set it to preferred.

I save Blizzard for group fights, and best used when enemies are bunched up. If you have a Rift mage like my Lightning build, Blizzard is great to cast during either Pull of the Abyss, or Static Cage. Just be careful, Blizzard can dry up your mana really quick. I usually save it for after I've casted a few other skills first.

Use Immolate and Ice Mine often. They are cheap and can be good for single or multitargets.

Fade Step and Horror are good defensive skills. Depending on the situation, you may want to use Horror to aoe panic a group of enemies attacking you or some other soft party member. Or simply use Fade Step to quickly avoid taking damage.

If you think an enemy is about to die, use Spirit Mark and/or Walking Bomb to finish them off. Casting too early may get you the full damage over time effect, but the real beauty of these skills comes from their after effects.
