Riot police in the capital Minsk detained several protesters during Saturday's 'women's march' against the Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

In footage filmed during the rally, hundreds of protesters could be seen marching through Minsk's streets while chanting “leave” and “this is our city.”

According to reports, the rally was organised under the slogan "People's President - a worthy inauguration," and demanded the admission of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya's victory over Lukashenko in the presidential election.

Protesters started rallying around the Kamarouski marketplace, before riot police arrived in vans and began detaining demonstrators.

The 'women's march' became a weekly movement held every Saturday against presidential election results.

Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the disputed presidential election of August 9 that saw incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term.
On August 19 the European Union announced sanctions against "a substantial number of individuals responsible for violence, repression, and election fraud" in Belarus.
