M D Ramanathan at the Music Academy, Madras, 21.12.1964

Nādabhṛṅga is very happy to bring to you possibly one of the earliest recordings available of Sri M D Ramanathan performing at the Music Academy, Madras, reproduced here after digital restoration in excellent quality. This concert was performed on the evening of 21st December, 1964. The outstanding support from the accompanying musicians Sri V V Subramaniam (violin) and Sri Trichy Sankaran (mridangam), heightens the listening experience of Sri MDR's stellar artistic explorations. Note: As was typical of him, Sri MDR does not restrict to only the traditional Saurashtra Mangalam, but additionally also sings a portion from the charana of "Alakalallalāḍaga" in Madhyamavati at the end. While digitising the spool tape, a noticeable hum began during the Todi raga. This has been cleaned to the extent possible without harming the musical content.
