European cat snake (Telescopus fallax), mildly-venomous snake species, reptiles of Greece, Balkan

European cat snake (Telescopus fallax) is a mildly-venomous snake species from the Balkan peninsula. It lives along the Adriatic coast (Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, etc.), in Greece and the Middle East. This is one of the few nocturnal snake species in Europe. During the day these snakes can be found by flipping rocks and stones. Cat snakes hunt mostly lizards, geckos and skinks. It has rear fangs, but it is dangerous to humans. Watch this video from Greece and enjoy our footage of European cat snakes in their natural habitat. There is also some behind the scenes footage at the end of our Greece team finding these snakes.
