Leonid Sobinov (1872-1934) was easily one of Russia's greatest tenors. He sang well into the Soviet era, and was the idol of the young Sergei Lemeshev, who studied every aspect of Sobinov's technique and artistry while he (Lemeshev) was a student at the Moscow Conservatory.
