Psychiatric medications aren’t necessarily overprescribed—we’re under-informed about them by the people prescribing them. In this Short, I walk through the five major classes of psychiatric meds (antidepressants, mood stabilizers, anxiolytics, antipsychotics, and stimulants) and why the “right dose” is sometimes within a narrow therapeutic window that usually takes trial and error to find.

Too often, prescribers don’t have the time (or systems) to do that detective work with you.
