Back in the day, in the East, a fiance could not see the face of his bride before the wedding, and that's why our hero - Asker, a young wealthy merchant, following the advice of his friend Suleiman, impersonates a simple street vendor - Arshin Mal-Alan, just to see the face of his future wife. Selling goods, he walks into houses where women and girls are looking at fabrics without covering their faces. There are a lot of girls around him, but he doesn't like anybody. Seeing Gulchohra, Asker understands that he only wants to marry her!

This movie, filled with good atmosphere of an "Old City", has surpassed all expectations, and was hugely popular not only in the USSR but also worldwide, being translated into seventy languages. The movie kept national character and folk humor. Stunning scenery, flawless acting, which makes the audience believe in the story, which keeps you completely captivated.
