Welcome to Mapperton House & Gardens!

Home to the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, Mapperton is a glorious sandstone manor house and romantic valley garden deep in a lost Dorset combe among tumbling hills and unspoiled countryside. Fifteen acres of gardens descend from the croquet lawn, through the formal topiary down to the wild garden.

Voted 'the Nation's Finest Manor House' by Country Life Magazine, Mapperton has been the location for several film and television productions, including Far from the Madding Crowd in 2015 starring Carey Mulligan.

Mapperton was first built in the 1540s and is known as Nation's Finest Manor House (voted by Country Life Magazine).

We are usually open to the public but are currently closed due to the COVID crisis. However we are delighted to bring you live tours of the house & gardens with the Earl and Countess of Sandwich, hosted by Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke.
