Peter Roselle: Refusing to Dine with the Father of Lies (John 8:44)

Peter Roselle: Refusing to Dine with the Father of Lies (John 8:44)
The serpent in the garden, cursed by God, was able to deceive Adam and Eve with lies. His strategies have not changed in the last 5,000 years. Lies are still his favorite punch and the truth of God’s Word, empowered by the anointing of Holy Spirit, has proven to be the best one-two counterpunch for Christians. Regardless of the blatant sin and corruption of our secular culture, Christians can still make the choice to choose Jesus, “the bread of life,” over the forbidden fruit offered by the enemy. Just as Daniel refused the food of Babylon and Nehemiah refused to come down from the great work he was doing to re-build Jerusalem, we can invite Jesus to our table and dine with him. The two disciples on the road to Emmaus made this choice and Jesus was made, “known to them in the breaking of bread. (Luke 24:35)

Be blessed.
Remember: you have been “blessed to be a blessing.” (Genesis 12:2)

John 8:37 You are descendants of Abraham,
but here you are plotting to murder Me because
you do not welcome My voice into your lives.
40 You are trying to kill Me, a man who has told
you the truth that comes from the Father.
44 You are just like your true father, the devil;
At the core of his character, he is a liar… everything he speaks
originates in these lies because he is the father of lies.

Genesis 2: 16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man,
saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Genesis 3
1 “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Genesis 3:4-5 Then the serpent said to the woman,
“You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened,
and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

1st commandment was about a meal (Gen 2:16-17)
Meals are about appetites, discipline & constraint
1st lie (about a meal), to discredit God’s character,
as in, “you don’t need to obey; he wants to suppress you.”
Adam & Eve’s “eyes were opened” when they sinned.

Daniel 1
8 Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with
the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank…
20 In all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king
examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians
and astrologers who were in all his realm.

Nehemiah 6:2-3
Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come, let us meet
together among the villages in the plain of Ono.”
But they thought to do me harm.
So I sent messengers to them, saying,
“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot
come down. Why should the work cease while
I leave it and go down to you?”

Matthew 7 (NLT)
12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.
This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
The Narrow Gate
13-14 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through
the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad,
and its gate is wide for the many who choose
that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow
and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

Luke 24 – Road to Emmaus
29 “Abide with us, for it is toward evening,
and the day is far spent.”
And He went in to stay with them.
30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table
with them, that He took bread,
blessed and broke it and gave it to them.
31 Then their eyes were opened and they
knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.

Luke 24 – Road to Emmaus
32 And they said to one another,
“Did not our heart burn within us
while He talked with us on the road,
and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
35 And they told about the things that had
happened on the road, and how He was known to
them in the breaking of bread.

Lk 22:19 “Jesus said, “Do this in remembrance of me.”

Romans 5:20 “where sin abounded,
the grace of God did superabound.”
Matthew 16
18 On this rock I will build My church, and the
gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of
heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
