Fixing a Subaru P0420 - the cheap and nasty method

This low kilometer Subaru Impreza flags a P0420 Catalyst efficiency fault code very quickly.
The rear O2 sensor would behave almost like the catalytic converter had been removed.
Replacement engine pipe with integrated converter is not available aftermarket and is $2200 dollars for genuine replacement. It just so happens that Subaru keep a good stock of them, suggesting a weakness in the design.
The owner was given the choice and decided to try an O2 sensor riser which lifts the rear oxygen sensor out of the exhaust stream.
I have never used these O2 sensor risers before so I decided to record and document the procedure and share the results.
