From Apprenticeship to Enterprise | Ike Chioke | TEDxOguiRoad
The informal apprenticeship model is an age long model amongst the Ibo business owners in Nigeria. The apprentice provides services to his boss for a period of time after which he is given seed capital to start his own business.
Ike describes the apprenticeship model and shares on the characteristics that have led to the model being an informal incubator for starting successful small scale businesses. He also touches on the challenges of this model and why Ibo business owners need to look beyond this model and the need to build transgenerational businesses.
Ike Chioke has over 25 years of investment banking experience involving strategic advisory in corporate finance including mergers & acquisitions, project/structured finance and debt/equity capital markets activities. His industry specializations include the telecommunications, media, financial services and general industrial sectors.
His professional experience cuts across renowned financial institutions including Arthur Andersen, Goldman Sachs and Salomon Smith Barney Inc. He is the current Group Managing Director of Afrinvest (West Africa) Limited. Ike Chioke is Group Managing Director, Afrinvest (West Africa) Limited. He is also Chairman of the FSS 2020 Capital Markets Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria and also as a member of the Bond Market Steering Committee of the Federal Debt Management Office. He is the 2nd Vice President of the Association of Issuing Houses of Nigeria, National Secretary of the Rhodes Scholarship for West Africa, member of the Board of American University of Nigeria and a member of the board of ServiPower Company Limited.
