Lake Scanno, belonging to three villages of Villalago and about a quarter to Scanno, is located in Abruzzo, in the lower eastern province of L'Aquila, between the Marsicani Mountains, in the upper valley of the Sagittarius River, 'an ancient landslide detached from the above mountain Genzana, between 12,820 and 3,000 years ago [1], which has barred the Tasso River.
The lake, located at an altitude of 922 meters s.l.m. and surrounded by some summits of the Marsicani Mountains such as the Montagna Grande and Monte Genzana, has very small coastlines and for some short stretches they have been adapted for the reception of bathers forming artificial rocky beaches. It is halfway between Villalago and Scanno, and is the largest natural lake in the region. From some visuals it appears in the form of a heart [2] [3], as for example from the lookout of Frattura Nuova [4], not far from the huge landslide of Mount Rava, which created the lake by stopping the Sagittarius valley.

Lake San Domenico is a mountain lake, located in the village of Villalago, in the province of L'Aquila, near the hermitage of San Domenico.

It originates from a dam completed in 1929 on behalf of the State Railways to convert the Roma-Sulmona line to electric traction. The lake's waters, by means of a 6-mile-long forced tunnel, mostly excavated in the rock, feed the hydroelectric power plant of Sagittarius, located in the valley of Antwerp.

The main affluent is Sagittarius, which is also the only river that flows from the dam; the lake is also endowed with affluents of little importance, such as the waterfalls of the Sega spring and the Prato Cardoso waterfall that carries into the lake; the latter is an occasional stream of water that is often tormented by rains or melting snow.

Il lago di Scanno, appartenente per tre quarti al comune di Villalago e per un quarto a quello di Scanno, si trova in Abruzzo, nella bassa provincia dell'Aquila, tra i Monti Marsicani, nell'alta valle del fiume Sagittario, originatosi per un'antica frana staccatasi dal soprastante monte Genzana, tra 12.820 e 3.000 anni fa[1], che ha sbarrato il fiume Tasso.
Il lago, situato a un'altitudine media di 922 metri s.l.m. e contornato da alcune cime dei Monti Marsicani come la Montagna Grande e Monte Genzana, ha coste molto ridotte e per alcuni brevissimi tratti sono state adattate per la ricezione di bagnanti formando delle spiagge artificiali di sassi. Si trova a metà strada tra Villalago e Scanno, ed è il lago naturale più grande della regione. Da alcune visuali si presenta in forma di cuore[2][3], come ad esempio dal belvedere di Frattura Nuova[4], non molto distante dalla enorme frana del monte Rava che generò il lago sbarrando la valle del Sagittario.

Il lago di San Domenico è un lago montano, sito nel comune di Villalago, in provincia dell'Aquila, nei pressi dell'eremo di San Domenico.

Prende origine da una diga completata nel 1929 per conto delle Ferrovie dello Stato per convertire la linea Roma-Sulmona alla trazione elettrica. Le acque del lago, mediante una condotta forzata lunga 6 chilometri prevalentemente scavata nella roccia, alimentano la centrale idroelettrica del Sagittario, situata a valle di Anversa.

L'affluente principale è il Sagittario, che è anche l'unico fiume che sgorga dalla diga; il lago è pure dotato di affluenti di infima importanza come le cascatelle della sorgente Sega ed il fiumiciattolo di Prato Cardoso che si immette carsicamente nel lago; quest'ultimo è un corso d'acqua occasionale spesso a regime torrentizio creato dalle piogge o dallo scioglimento delle nevi.
