Desertificazione

EXPLANATORY NOTES:
Music-video “Desertificazione” by Esther Flückiger and Felix Humm.

The Video “Desertificazione” is a project-sketch for a Live-Performance (see “The topic”, it’s the description of the whole project).

“Desertificazione” is a project in two parts

1.) A Live performance
2.) Video “Desertificazione” a short-film (Video enclosed DVD). This Video was at first used as a project-sketch of the live performance, which describes the whole live performance in a visual and musical form, but in an other kind of expression. It can be used as a separate project-part, it’s a independent film work.

This video has been showed the first time last September at the Festival of the Biennale “TEACH ME” in Venice.

“The topic”
A project based on observations on the realistic situation of today’s current state of The World and The Individual.
The performance will take place at a stage event full of sound and visual effects in a journey between oddity and truth in picture and sound.
A thought spent on the Planet, that singular and unique body of resonance, this energy, stronger than any other, which can overwhelm us, threaten us, lead us into disaster – meaning, we are at its mercy.

Desertificazione is the title of this project. Its delivery is the major part of the whole event. It is constructive, but leaves a lot of room for chance.
This piece invades all of the senses of those experiencing it – there is an inescapable interchange creating a direct sensual perception that nobody can hide from.
…dusty, smoky,…resources, tempo, frozen in time, nervous system, senses…

Desertificazione is only one possibility for naming the project, which should, more than anything, provide the audience with an impulse to think.

The spice used as a medium is “sand”. It acts as a warning signal, and triggers the event.
It shows how human creativity is buried, paralysed, how people bury themselves in denial of aesthetics, and this is because of the fear of what may result – feelings. The individual covers up his sensitivity for fear that the strings in the soul may start to resonate.
